SSS Funeral and Death Benefit 2026: Amount, Calculator and How to Claim
Quick answer: When an SSS member or pensioner dies, SSS pays two benefits. The funeral benefit goes to whoever paid the funeral expenses: ₱20,000 to ₱60,000 if the member had at least 36 contributions, or a fixed ₱12,000 if fewer. The death benefit goes to the beneficiaries: a monthly pension for the spouse and children if the member paid at least 36 contributions before the semester of death, or a lump sum if fewer.
SSS Death Benefit Calculator
Estimate the monthly survivor pension (or lump sum) for the beneficiaries of an SSS member.
Estimate only, using the SSS formula with AMSC counted up to ₱20,000 and credited years based on contributions. It does not include the September 2025–2027 pension increases. SSS computes the final amount.
SSS Funeral Benefit 2026
| Contributions of the deceased | Funeral benefit |
|---|---|
| At least 36 monthly contributions | ₱20,000 to ₱60,000 (variable, based on the member’s contribution record) |
| 1 to 35 monthly contributions | ₱12,000 (fixed) |
These amounts apply to deaths from 20 October 2023. The funeral benefit is paid to the person who actually paid for the funeral — the spouse, a child, a relative or even a non-relative — and covers deceased members, retirement pensioners and total disability pensioners.

SSS Death Benefit: Monthly Pension or Lump Sum
| Situation | Benefit |
|---|---|
| Member paid at least 36 contributions before the semester of death, with primary beneficiaries | Monthly survivor pension for life (spouse until remarriage; children until 21) + 13th month |
| Member paid fewer than 36 contributions, with primary beneficiaries | Lump sum: the higher of monthly pension × contributions paid, or 12 × monthly pension |
| No primary beneficiaries | Lump sum to secondary beneficiaries: 36 × monthly pension (or the formula above if fewer than 36 contributions) |
How the SSS Death Pension Is Computed
The basic monthly pension is the highest of:
- ₱300 + 20% of AMSC + 2% of AMSC for each credited year of service beyond 10;
- 40% of AMSC; or
- the minimum pension: ₱1,000 (under 10 credited years), ₱1,200 (10–19 years) or ₱2,400 (20+ years).
On top of that, survivor pensioners receive a ₱1,000 add-on, a dependent’s pension of 10% of the pension or ₱250 (whichever is higher) for each child under 21, up to five children, and a 13th-month pension in December. Survivor pensions also get a 5% increase every September from 2025 to 2027 (see SSS changes 2025–2027). The same formula is used in our SSS pension calculator.
Who Are the Beneficiaries?
- Primary: the dependent legal spouse (until remarriage) and dependent children — legitimate, legitimated, legally adopted or illegitimate — who are unmarried, not working and under 21, or permanently incapacitated.
- Secondary: dependent parents if there are no primary beneficiaries; then the person designated in the member’s SSS records; then the legal heirs.
SSS Death Claim Requirements
- Death Claim Application form
- Death certificate (LCR or PSA copy)
- Marriage certificate (spouse) and birth certificates of the children
- Valid IDs of the claimant and a disbursement account (bank or e-wallet)
- For secondary beneficiaries: the member’s birth certificate and proof of relationship
A qualified dependent legal spouse registered in My.SSS can file the death claim online; other claimants file at an SSS branch (book a slot with our SSS appointment guide). If the deceased was a pensioner, the family must also stop the pension promptly to avoid overpayment — see our ACOP guide.
SSS Funeral and Death Benefit FAQs
How much is the SSS funeral benefit in 2026?
₱20,000 to ₱60,000 if the deceased had at least 36 monthly contributions, and a fixed ₱12,000 if they had 1 to 35.
Who can claim the SSS funeral benefit?
Whoever paid the funeral expenses, as shown by the official receipt — it does not have to be a relative.
How many contributions are needed for a monthly death pension?
At least 36 monthly contributions paid before the semester of death. With fewer, primary beneficiaries receive a lump sum instead.
Can the spouse and children both receive the death pension?
Yes. The spouse receives the basic pension, and each dependent child under 21 adds a dependent’s pension, up to five children.
