Covered Causes of Separation
- Redundancy, retrenchment, closure or cessation of business
- Installation of labor-saving devices
- Illness that makes continued work unlawful or harmful

- Resignation for just causes attributable to the employer (for example, serious insult or inhuman treatment)
Employees dismissed for just causes such as serious misconduct or fraud, and those who resign voluntarily, do not qualify.
How to Claim the SSS Unemployment Benefit Online
- Log in to My.SSS and make sure a disbursement account is enrolled.
- Go to Benefits → Unemployment Benefit.
- Enter your employment category, separation date, employer name and the DOLE office (or POLO/DMW office for OFWs).
- Submit and save the transaction number sent to your email.
- Within 30 days, get a Certification of Involuntary Separation from DOLE (or POLO/DMW). Bring a valid ID and your notice of termination. If you miss the 30 days, the claim is cancelled.
- Once DOLE confirms the certificate in the SSS system, SSS approves the claim and pays your disbursement account.
What to Do After Losing Your Job
- Keep your coverage active by paying as a voluntary member — gaps can affect future maternity, sickness and pension benefits.
- Your existing salary loan stays payable; check your balance and consider the penalty condonation program if you fall behind.
- Generate a PRN for voluntary payments.
